Repubican Convention

what a load of hog wash! they say bush made "the tough decisions". like the decision to lie about saddam's supposed weapons of mass destruction? or the decision to lie about saddam's supposed ties to the sept. 11 lunatics? (of which there were NONE)....or wait, how about the decision to cut taxes on the top 1% of the american public with 42% of the total tax cuts? or, what about the decision to run up a coupla trillion in budget deficits? or what about the decision to flip-flop on "nation building"?? when running in 2000, bush said he wouldn't nation-build. what's he doing in iraq, other than stealing oil for exxon??? or, what about the decision to remain on vacation when, a month before sept. 11 he got a memo saying al qaeda was planning to attack inside the u.s.??? or, what about the decision to politicize the sept. 11 attacks??? it's SOOOO hard to make tough decisions to send other people to die in iraq while he hides behind the secret service, pokes his head out from all that security and says "bring 'em on"...oh, what a tough guy!! I AM SOOOO impressed. this stuff is nauseating...watching the republicans, who failed to do anything to stop the sept. 11 attacks, using the dead bodies for political advantage. or am i wrong???

I sent this to the newspaper USA Today as requested by MoveOn.org and yes, I did copy and paste one paragraph from the Moveon web site but most of this is my own. I chose USA Today because they have the largest circulation of all the listed choices, and I could only click one radio buttoin and I didn't feel like going back over and over again to send the same letter out to every newspaper. I blogged it here, though, so on a whim, I can always go back and do it later. How did mankind ever get along without the "copy and paste" functionality in the past?
----------------------------

As I listened to postive-spun speech after vitriolic Kerry-bashing speech during the televised RNC, I could not help but wonder if the people behind all this rhetoriuc are on the same planet as the rest of us.

What I hear coming out of the mouths of the speakers and what I actually read about in the news are almost diametrically opposed "facts". Case in point - leave no child behind. The actuality is, our education system is being hacked by machetes through budget cuts, classes being cut and teachers losing jobs. And jobs - Yeah, i heard GW talking about creating them - i just don't see many really good jobs popping up at the moment. Oh wait, there's one! Oh, never mind, they want the applicants to relocate to India.

And the whole smear campaign focusing on Kerry's service record and whether or not he deserved all of his purple hearts? That's just a smoke screen to avoid talking about Bush and Cheney's own shameful records. Personally, I wouldn't care if Bush was a conscientious objector, but it's his inability to cop to it and outwardly lie about it that makes me seethe.

Bush keeps insisting that our economy is strong, but there are more than 36 million Americans in poverty, rising 1.3 million between 2002 and 2003. The Bush Administration projected that 3,978,000 jobs would be created over the last 13 months, but in reality, since the tax cuts took effect, there have been 2,565,000 fewer jobs created than the administration projected through the enactment of its tax cuts. Cuts for the richest 1% of the country I might add.

I have no doubt Bush is a great husband and father and all around family man. But he is not good for the average American family because he was never a part of one. He was born into elite political privledge and can never relate to those of us who struggle every day, can not afford health insurance and now, thanks to him, those who once counted on overtime to earn a little extra something for a rainy day or vacation can't even do that.

Kerry may also have a lot of money between him and his wife, but at least I get the feeling he understands the rest of us. Rather than flaunt his wealth, smirk and laugh at his own bad jokes, John Kerry plays down the wealth and talks about issues and solutions. As far as his voting history as a Senator, I have no doubt not every vote over the last 20 years could please everyone, but I know wherer his heart is. I have a feeling the truth about a lot of this will come out in the debates. He's going to be a lot more formidable an oponent than Gore. For me - the choice is clear... Kerry/Edwards is the ticket.

love the comments re: kerry and "w". the truth is that bush is a corporation masquerading as a human being. that is ralph nader's line and it's spot on...as they say! this is a corporate administration that thinks outsourcing is good (and says so) and couldn't care less about folks earning $75,000 per year and less. to this administration, americans are there to trick, fool and exploit on behalf of the pharmaceutical companies, etc. the fact that they lie with impunity and are smug and arrogant in the process, just makes me nauseous.
